Gaining some bunch of snow!

Had not gotten enough snow this season yet but finally we got some!! Snow removing bulldozers are wor ing! Pangies in our garden are under the snow as you see.
Weather forcast says it'll be snowy all day long today, seems winter has come. Grand-prix course at Hakuba Goryu ski slope will be scheduled to get available today, check it out Japanese only though... :(

New snow after an interval

It seems that it has been the warmest winter ever since I moved into Hakuba 20 years ago. We had some snowfalls last night, it made the scenery look like real winter as trees got some snow. Maybe because of some clouds around the top, lower slopes were crowded this morning.

It's always fun to find footprints of animals when we get new snow. I guess they are probably ones of a fox. If it's a rabbit's one, it looks pretty different.

First sking in 08-09 season.

Went to Hakuba Goryu on 12th and Sun-Alpine today with our customers from Melbourne. Young boys of 22 years old and an old fart of 48 years old. Must look as if a bad father took care of his sons. Unfortunately we had a heavy condition like a blizzard when we tried Hakuba Goryu but we did revenge when we visited Sun-Alpine.
I feel it somehow mysterious whenever I find new snow on a sunny morning.


Boys whom I went there together are from Melbourne, they are pretty young enough but I am not any more, so probably I am inferior to them in physically but this old man knows the ski slopes much better than they - where something is, where to rest etc. So he tried to have them all flat lane which snowboarders really hate. But actually we need to do that when we move from Sanosaka to Aokiko and opposite.
Being young is always nice, they kept getting in new snow which skiers can hardly do because it's difficult for skiers to get out of it when they get in there.


Most ski slopes in Hakuba give people some mountainious views but in Sun-alpine there are many woody tracks around. A bit unique.

Beautiful view of Aokiko from Sanosaka. It does not seem to get frozen yet. It could be because of the global warming. I bought a 1 day pass but needed to stop skiing earlier. Age sucks!!!! Can not hold sore muscles for some days. When I got back home, I found snow on the roof dropped off. Extra work to remove it. Probably I would have sore muscles all over tomorrow.

Fine day at Hakuba Goryu Alps daira

Went up to Hakuba Goryu Alps daira botanical garden to pick up weeds there. I prepared some towels to protect my neck from sunburns and a hat to do my head. Noticed that when we get older, we prepare something different for different purposes which we never needed when we were young lol......
Pay attention at the left side pole which is a bit vended. Some pulleys for chair lifts wire are hanged at the middle that may look a bit funny for skiers and snowboarders who visit ski resort in winter. They hang the pulleys lower in summer beause if they leave them at the top as well as in winter, passengers are to move very high in the air which might be a bit danger. This is why they hang them lower in summer if the lifts were in service. Only for this event, they need to get an authorization, Japan is full of authorizations here and there!
As we get 2 - 3 meters snowfall here in winter, they need to hang them upper in winter.

The altitude of Alps daira is around 1,500 meters. It was 20C today with cool and dry windblow which made us comfortable to do the work.

47 years old Japanese inn master skiing Hakuba 47 in March 08

Finally I got a chance to ski for the first time this season when it's March. Wish I could make it earlier in January or February, but a lot often tough to do that.
Anyway, I visited the Hakuba Goryu & Hakube 47 ski slopes which are my home ground with my guests. One of them seemed to take a movie clip, I didn't know he did that.

It seemed I skiied a bit too fast, no one followed me (^^;;
What a bastard inn master when his customer tried to take a clip!
I should have known it!!
Once again he took another one and I was informed he would.

It was very warm today, the temperture was going up and up and up, very slashy there. Even hard to turn correctly. It was a past story for me to ski very fast, I am getting older and maturer, don't ski that fast any more but would like to handle any situation - powder or wet snow, fast or slow skiing to be a good veteran old fart skier :-)

Found this kind of stuff at the Hakuba Goryu Escal plaza.
Air guns which take snow off from snowboards and skis. It seems some compressers were hid in the wall besides them, tough to hide that kind of stuffs from train fans while trains have some compressers to open/close the doors. We are used to the noise, so we know what's inside the wall! :) Seems very convenient to skiers, snowboarders.

Disguissing Santa Clause...

.... enabled them to get 1 day ski passes for Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba 47 for free today. I told the information to them yesterday, then they got the costumes.

I asked where they got Santa costume, they said Hakuba Goryu ski slope sold some.
Blah blah blah..in front of our place, very outstanding with Santa costume. People yelled a lot!

Informations described in Japanese don't reach foreign people because of the complicated "alphabet" kanjis which came from China more than thousand years ago.
It's one of important job for an innkeeper to make customers' day enjoyable.

Hakuba Goryu ski slopes will open on Nov.23th 2007 due to a bunch of cold waves!

A bunch of cold waves have come, I felt it very cold when my feet and head was getting colder and colder.

Hakuba Goryu ski slopes from North-East direction. The right side is Iimori gerande, there is a quad lift there which takes you to its top. The left one is Toomi gerande with Night ski equipments. Champion-expert course gets in Toomi gerande with that steep angle. Champion-dynamic and Grand-prix courses are located at the upper side of Champion-expert. I try Champion and Grand-prix sometimes when it's not crowded and well pressed conditon. Once Champ-expert couse gets like a mogul course, it's hard to expect it being a well pressed slope again.





Hakuba Goryu ski slopes from East direction. The long corse from the top is Grand-prix, Champion-dynamic and Champion-expert (Top to bottom). The Champion-expert has 35 angle steepness in maximum. If it's 35 in ski slopes, it almost looks like a cliff when you see the bottom from the top :o


Hakuba Goryu ski slopes from South-East direction. I see scenery there from this direction because I sometimes take a walk around here. Anyway, time flies so fast especially when you live in a location where you can feel the four seasons very clearly.

Snowharp

Went to the Hakuba Snowharp olympic cross country skiing trails to take my guests there.

Mountains just in front of the Japan north alps main moutains.


Many Japanese self-defence army cars were there. Maybe they had a training there today.

Sun Alpine Aokiko ski slope

A little bit hard to find a timing to go out for skiing. This below is what I took at this time of the last year.

Sun Alpine Aokiko ski slope, the lake Aokiko was frozen all over. As you see, it was "all only for you" when you went there early in the morning. This ski slope is connected with Sun Alpine Hakuba Sanosaka and Sun Alpine Kashimayari, you can go and back each other slopes with a common ski pass. Most ski slopes in Hakuba area looks like mountain ski resorts but this ski slope looks a bit different. An elegant lake is beside which I recommend.
